Working Out

Scripture reading

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.

–Philippians 2:12-13

Thought of the Day

Have you ever said, “It’s Greek to me,”? This probably won’t surprise you but I do it all the time. I learned a new word today. It is katergazesthe. It is a hard word. Hard to spell and even harder to use in a sentence. If I were in the National Spelling Bee, I would be sitting down pretty quick after they gave me this word. It is definitely Greek to me. Actually it is Greek to you too and to everyone else around. Katergazesthe is the Greek word that means to “work out”. Now this is not an athletic term. It has nothing to do with lifting weights or running or anything like that. It does mean to work things out in context of our scripture for today. We are called to continually work out our minds and hearts to connect with God. We are called to develop our faith together with the Holy Spirit. We are a part of the process.
So how are things “working out” with Jesus? Remember that God cares about you and will work in you to do His will and good works.

Prayer

Lord Above, Thanks for being my workout partner. Amen.
