Scripture reading
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
–1 Corinthians 13:13
Thought of the Day
How many words do you know? What an impossible task it would be to try to list all the words we have filed away in our heads. Just to give it a try I will start listing all the words I know. Where to begin? On second thought, I think I will not list all the words I know. Too many. I know what you are thinking. What in the world got him thinking about words? Let me tell you. I recently read that from the third grade on, children need to learn about 3000 new words every year. That is eight new words every day. The experts say that it takes children at least four exposures to make a word their own.
Wow. I wonder how many years you have to learn that many words before it levels off? I must admit that I have not learned eight new words today. Of course the day is not over yet. Maybe I will hear some new words and make them my own this evening.
What if we made the conscious effort to make the words of Christ our very own? What if we decided today to expose ourselves to the words lifted up in the Bible and made them an active part of our lives? Our scripture for today lifts up three great words. Here are a few more. Forgiveness, Grace, Salvation, Trust, and Obedience. Add these to Faith, Hope, and Love and you have your eight. Let these words have new and renewed meaning to you this day.
Prayer
Lord, Make Your words my words. Amen.
