What are the odds?

Scripture reading

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

–1 Corinthians 1:9

Thought of the Day

Have you ever been injured by a bed, mattress, or pillow? If so, you are not alone. According to the “Statistical Abstract of the United States” over 400,000 Americans suffer such injuries each and every year. Do you take your life in your own hands every time you sit down at your desk at work or home? Pencils, pens, and other desk accessories injure over 50,000 people each year. This one amazes me. Over ten times as many people each year are injured by chairs, sofas, and sofa beds (400,000) than by saws and chainsaws (38,692). Don’t even get me started about how many victims, “stairs, ramps, and landings” claim each year. What are the odds, you might ask? All you have to do is to read the “Statistical Abstract of the United States” to find out.
Let me tell you about something else that will help you figure out your odds. Not of hurting yourself in a crazy way, but of helping yourself. There is this book called the Bible. The odds of you finding comfort and peace in it are pretty good. The odds of you finding love and grace and forgiveness are excellent. Give it a shot.

Prayer

Lord, You are so faithful. Thank you. Amen.
