We Are Chosen

Scripture Reading

It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, He had His eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone.

Ephesians 1:11 (The Message)

Thought of the Day

Have you ever felt like a chosen one?  Now I am not talking about being picked first at kickball in the fourth grade even thought that is awesome. (I never was by the way.)  No, I am talking about something way bigger. A while back I went out to lunch with a good friend. It was a nice place. We had ordered the quail and steak appetizer, and each ordered a salad from the amazing salad bar. I am sure the waiter was unhappy with us for such a small order. I am also sure that he thought it was strange that two fairly large guys would only order salads. We had just sat down from getting our salads when the manager walked up to our table with a plate of food. He introduced himself and showed us a delicious looking French dip sandwich complete with fries, horseradish sauce, and savory au jus. He went on to explain that they were thinking of adding it to the menu, but they always did some customer taste tests before doing so. He asked us if we would be willing to sample it and tell him what we thought. Would we be willing? Is the Pope Catholic?  Does a one-legged duck swim in circles? Does a one-legged Pope swim in circles?  OF COURSE, we agreed to help him out. It was delish. We preferred the sandwich on the bun instead of the three smaller ones (a la sliders). The sauce was great, and the au jus was amazing. We were the chosen ones.

As I sit here and reflect on that special time, my mind is full of questions. Why did he pick the two of us?  Was it something he saw in us?  Did he look deep into our eyes and see a hunger for something more in life?  Or did he just see two big guys who looked hungry?  For whatever reason, we were chosen. What an honor!

The good news today is that Christ chose us a long time ago. He still chooses us today. He has had His eye on us. He has a plan for us. We are part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Prayer

Lord, I am honored to be a part of Your plan. Amen.
