Scripture reading
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith.
–Hebrews 12:2a
Thought of the Day
My father is a retired Methodist minister and last Sunday preached at a small church, just outside of Houston. My wife, son, and I decided to go and hear him to make sure that he “still had it”. The service was nice. I loved the call to prayer. The congregation sang together the chorus from a great old hymn written by a lady by the name of Helen Lemmel. She was the daughter of a Methodist minister who loved music and made it her career. She wrote many hymns that the Evangelist Billy Graham used for years in his crusades. Anyway, the call to prayer was the chorus of “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”. Here it is.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Aren’t these great words? Helen figured out that when we are turned towards Jesus the Christ, the other things in our lives that need to fade away, fade away. So the next time you are overcome by the “world”, focus on Christ and His wonderful face and His light will shower you in glory and grace. Oh, by the way, the old man still has it!
Prayer
Lord above, Let Your light shine on me. Amen.
