Scripture reading
Therefore is anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creation: the old is gone, the new has come.
–2 Corinthians 5:17
Thought of the Day
Bishop Desmond in his book, “God Has a Dream, A Vision of Hope for Our Time”, writes about a time where God revealed Himself in an amazing way just when Bishop Tutu needed to hear from Him. It was in the midst of apartheid in South Africa and Bishop Tutu was meeting with other church leaders in preparation for a meeting with the Prime Minister about some of the many problems of the day. It was at a theological college that had closed down because of the government’s racist policies. Bishop Tutu went into a garden area for prayer and a time of solitude when he saw a large wooden cross with protruding nails and a crown of thorns. It was winter and the grass was pale and the plants dry and stark. He writes that he realized that it was a powerful symbol of the Christian faith. No one would believe that in a few short weeks’ time that it would be lush and green and beautiful again. It would be transfigured. It was a statement about the power of transfiguration, God’s transformation in our world.
As we approach a new year, we need to realize that it can be a time of transfiguration for each of us. God can transform us all in new and amazing ways. It will require us to have faith in Him, and trust in Him in all we do. Let Him help you. God loves you and wants to be with you. Never ever forget that fact.
Prayer
Lord, Transform me. Amen.
