Scripture reading
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those that are bruised.
–Luke 4:18
Thought of the Day
I wish that today were Benjamin Franklin’s birthday so that you would really be impressed with the timeliness of this fact. Unfortunately old Ben was born on … I really can’t tell you. Of course if I don’t know, maybe you don’t know either. So in case you don’t know; Today is Ben Franklin’s birthday and in honor of old Ben, I want to tell you this interesting fact about him.
During most of his adult life, each morning, Mr. Franklin would ask himself this question. “What good shall I do today?” Each evening, he would reflect on the question, “What good have I done today?”
I always knew Ben was smart, but now I am really impressed. You see, he knew that we were put upon this earth to make a difference and to do some good, each and every day of our lives. Maybe this is a great time to start being like Ben and to ask ourselves the same questions each morning and night. Try it. I can’t think of a better way to prepare for the coming of the Christ Child.
Prayer
Father, What good shall we do today? Amen.
