Scripture reading
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
–Psalm 119:115
Thought of the Day
Ruby Williams is an eighty-year-old former sharecropper and domestic worker who desired only one thing in life. It wasn’t great wealth she wanted. Nor was it higher status or greater success. It was simple. She just wanted to read her Bible. There was a slight problem; Ruby was functionally illiterate. When she was young, Ruby was sent to the fields to work instead of to school to learn. At the age of eighty she decided that she wanted to read with her own eyes, the words that have sustained her over the years. Her church helped out and Ruby enrolled in a literacy program. She was definitely the “senior citizen” in the class. One year later, Ruby was able to read. Here are her words.
“I can read, I can read. Sometimes I pick up the Bible and read and read and read, I sure do. Glory hallelujah. Thank God.”
We tend to take some things for granted. Like reading. When was the last time you picked up your Bible and read the word and said the words that Ruby Williams said? Maybe it is time.
Prayer
Lord, Your Word is a path for my life. Amen.
