Scripture reading
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.
–John 1:1-3
Thought of the Day
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a French Jesuit, paleontologist, biologist, and philosopher, who spent most of his life trying to integrate religious experience with natural science. He wrote many books with the focus being that God created everything with a purpose and plan. He wrote this statement in one of his books.
“Someday, after we have mastered the winds and the waves, the tides, and gravity, we will harness for God the energies of love and then for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.”
I love these words, especially this time of year as we approach the birth of the Christ Child. Father de Chardin knew that love is the most powerful of all of God’s creations. Just as fire transformed the world for man, so can love. Just as fire transformed the world for man, so did Jesus. Remember that fact. Remember to love.
Prayer
Lord, Thank you for the gift of love in Jesus Christ. Amen.
