Scripture reading
O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!
–Psalm 34:8
Thought of the Day
Yesterday we had our annual Junior/Senior Softball Classic with our youth. Each year the two classes play in a fun, action packed game. I coach and pitch for the seniors. Normally each year the seniors win. Last year was a change in that tradition. In a hard fought game, the juniors beat the seniors. So this year’s game had special meaning for the seniors since they had the chance of being the first class to go undefeated. Of course it is only two games, but undefeated is undefeated. Before the first pitch, I gathered the seniors together for some inspirational words of encouragement. I reminded them that they had never tasted defeat. (OK, OK, maybe it was a little over dramatic since they had only played one game.)
At the end of the game, the seniors squeezed out a win over the juniors. It came down to the last inning. It was a fun game.
I would like to think that it was my words of wisdom about never tasting defeat that won the game for the seniors. Of course it might have just been luck. I don’t know. What I do know is that the psalmist wrote some words of wisdom a long time ago about tasting and seeing that the Lord is good. Great words for sure.
Prayer
Lord, Let me always seek refuge in You. Amen.
