Scripture reading
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
–2 Timothy 4:7-8
Thought of the Day
A while back, I read a short article about a scandal that occurred at the Berlin Marathon last September. Apparently, the twenty-six plus miles were too much for thirty-three of the runners. They decided to take a short cut by riding a subway. Evidently these guys were not rocket scientists because they forgot about the computer chips they were wearing that automatically recorded their times at designated intervals. They were all disqualified and banned for life from running in that race.
I guess that these guys never read our verse for today. Or maybe they read the part about finishing the race but not the stuff about the good fight or keeping the faith. You see, it takes all three for us to receive the crown of righteousness that Paul tells us about. So how about it? Are you in training?
Prayer
Lord, I long for you. Amen.
