Softly and Tenderly

Scripture reading

For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

Thought of the Day

Can you believe Willie Nelson is seventy years old? I guess that is just a testament to good healthy living. Willie and I go way back. One of my favorite albums of his is one named “Pretty Paper”. In it, Willie sings some songs he learned growing up at his Grandmother’s knee. There are several old time Gospel classics. One of my favorites of all time is Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is calling. Here are the words:

Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is calling,
Calling for you and for me;
See on the portals He’s waiting and watching,
Watching for you and for me.

This song was written way back in 1880 by a man named Will Thompson. It was sung in camp revivals and evangelistic crusades. It became a favorite hymn of invitation to unbelievers. Guess what? You don’t have to be an unbeliever to find comfort and peace in the words of this hymn. Listen softly. Jesus is calling for you. Look around. He is waiting and watching for you. Never forget this Good News!

Prayer

Jesus, Thank you for loving me. Amen.
