Rock, Paper, Scissors

Scripture reading

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

–Philippians 3:14

Thought of the Day

What are you doing this Saturday? I am seriously thinking about heading to Healdsburg, California for the western regional Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. The winner of this all-important contest will advance on to the world tourney in Las Vegas later on this year. I must admit that I am pretty good. I seem to know when to throw a rock to break my opponent’s scissor. When they come back with a rock, I quickly lay a piece of paper on it to defeat it. And of course, I know when to be a cut up. When they throw paper, I pull out my scissors. I am pretty good; I seem to know this stuff. I know what beats what.

Let me tell you what else I know. I know that love beats hate every day. I know that acceptance beats excluding. I know that life with Christ beats a life without Christ. Why don’t we all do all we can to follow the words of Paul? Let’s press on toward the goal to win the prize God has promised us in Jesus Christ.

Prayer

Lord of us all. You are a great prize. I know I can win with you. Amen.
