Scripture reading
Finally brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
–2 Corinthians 13:11
Thought of the Day
I was reading a new book this week and there was a chapter about Martin Luther King, Jr. It was interesting to read his words about why he knew that non-violence was crucial in the fight for freedom and civil rights. He wrote that if those oppressed used the same tactics that some used to prevent freedom, then once they were free that they might think that it was acceptable to also use violence to achieve things. Dr. King knew that peace was the answer. Here are some of his words:
One day we must come to see that peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but it is a mean by which we arrive at that goal. We must pursue peaceful ends through peaceful means.
Our world is not a very peaceful place. Pray for peace every day.
Prayer
Lord, Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. Amen.
