Mystery Trip

Thought of the Day

This past weekend I hung out with twenty-nine of our outstanding SALT senior leaders. We were on our 2nd Annual Senior Mystery Trip. It was awesome. We began Friday night and until Sunday night we did all kinds of things. We had a fajita cookout at the church. We built a fifteen foot tall “Big Tex” man. We did some “Rockin and Bowling”. We had an awesome praise and worship and prayer time. We went to Farmer’s Market and bought fresh fruits and vegetables to deliver to the fourth Ward to hand out with the Soupmobile sack lunches. We entered a team in the Stratford Chili Cookoff. (Big Tex joined us) We drove to San Antonio and heard Clay Walker sing at their Livestock Show and Rodeo. We went rafting on the Guadelupe River. We ate lunch at the Gristmill in Gruene and then we came home. Wow! What a weekend. Amidst all of that, we slept a little and had a ton of fun.
One of the things I love so much about these mystery trips is the reaction of the youth as they figure out that they are “not in control”. I can’t tell you how much they want to know where we are going next. It drives them crazy. What we tell them is to keep the faith. They are not in control, they just have to have faith that they are going to love it. I guess we could almost call this a “You are not in control of your life this weekend, just keep the faith” Trip.
I guess you can tell why we do this trip each year. Maybe for the fun and community building that occurs, but mainly to show them that it is OK to not be in control and to have faith. You see, God is in control. Faith affirms that. What about you? Do you need some reminding of that? Do you need to go on a Mystery Trip?

Prayer

Father, You are in control of all of creation, including me. Amen.
