Scripture reading
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving is in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
–Matthew 6:3-4
Thought of the Day
Sometimes it pays to not be a rocket scientist. NASA does an amazing job exploring new frontiers, but you may remember a big foul up that occurred with the Mars Climate Orbiter a few years ago. For ten months the Orbiter was in route to Mars towards its mission of being a weather satellite above the red planet. The crisis occurred when the Orbiter was just thirty-seven miles above the surface of the planet. The $125 million dollar project failed because of a simple miscommunication between the “rocket scientists”. It seemed that one group used English measurements and another group used metric. This mix-up destroyed years of work and millions of dollars. I guess the NASA guys needed to have the left hand know what the right hand was doing.
I love these words from Christ. It is so important that when we reach out to others that we do it to lift them up, not ourselves.
Prayer
Father God, Teach me humility. Amen.
