Loving Others

Scripture reading

I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other as I have loved you. All people will know you are My followers if you love one another.

–John 13:34-35

Thought of the Day

Do you know what Vincent van Gogh wanted to be when he grew up? Nope, it wasn’t a painter. Vincent wanted to be a minister. He began schooling in theology, but soon dropped out because he was not the best student. He then went to a most impoverished region in Western Europe where coal mining was done. Vincent began to minister to the miners and their families, even to the point of giving them all he had because his heart went out to them in their poverty. His ministry did was not successful in the eyes of the church so he moved on after a few short years. It was then he realized his gift of painting. I recently read a quote by Vincent. He said, “The best way to know God is to love many things.” I think this makes sense. If you are filled with love then there is not much room for anything else. When we love many things, we are filled with light and there is no darkness. How do you know God? Just in case Vincent is right, do all you can to love others as Christ loves you.

Prayer

Lord of us all. Help me to love as You loved. Amen.
