Love in the Wilderness

Thought of the Day

Scripture Reading

Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave His charge: “God authorized and commanded Me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:20

Thought of the Day

Frederick Buechner is an author, a theologian, and a Presbyterian minister. In his essays and sermons, he is known for encouraging people to find God’s grace in their everyday lives.  I was going though some files I have and found the following quote.  I cannot remember if I have shared it with you before or not.  I decided that it does not matter because they are some great words of faith for each of us.  Here they are.

To be commanded to love God at all, let alone in the wilderness, is like being commanded to be well when we are sick, to sing for joy when we are dying of thirst, to run when our legs are broken. But this is the first and great commandment nonetheless. Even in the wilderness – especially in the wilderness – you shall love him.

 Frederick Buechner

These are words that we all need to learn and to live.  We shall love Him.

Prayer

God of grace, thank You for your faithfulness and love .  Amen.
