Scripture reading
But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
–Deuteronomy 4:29
Thought of the Day
How did people exist before televisions had remote controls? I guess that is why people had children. Kids would just sit at the corner of the couch ready to change channels whenever their father commanded. Since I am sure that didn’t work too well, the remote was invented. You know, there are not too many things that drive me crazy in life. One thing that does is when I can’t find the TV remote. How does it get so lost? When it happens I go on a frenzy looking for it. Cushions are flying and pillows are thrown. I am looking over and under and inside of things. I go crazy looking for it. The comedian Jeff Foxworthy jokes about how people say they always find what they were looking for in “the last place they looked”. HELLO! Of course it was in the last place you looked. Why would you keep looking once you found it?
Malcolm Muggeridge was a writer who grew up in England who converted to Christ and became well known for his humor and honesty about our struggle with living on this earth and living for Christ at the same time. He wrote these words.
“the true purpose of our existence in this world, which is, quite simply, to look for God, and in looking, to find Him, and, having found Him, to love Him, thereby establishing a harmonious relationship with His purposes for His creation.”
So maybe what I ought to do is to look as hard for God as I do for my remote when I lose it. Maybe you ought to do the same. Maybe we ought to both go crazy looking for God.
Prayer
Awesome Lord, I am looking for You. Amen.
