Scripture reading
You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.
–Psalm 18:28
Thought of the Day
There is a little story about when Robert Louis Stevenson was a boy. One night when he was around twelve years old, he was sitting by his upstairs bedroom window. He was watching a man go down the street lighting the streetlamps. (This was a few years back. The lights are smarter now, they light by themselves. I think it is magic.) Anyway, his mother came into the room and asked young Robert, what he was doing. He replied, “I am watching a man cut holes in the darkness”. Great imagery, I think. You see, that is what God does in His world. That is what God does in our world. He cuts holes filled with brilliant light into our darkness.
Prayer
Lord, Keep my lamp burning. Amen.
