Scripture reading
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
–2 Corinthians 5:17
Thought of the Day
Charles Allen, the former pastor at First UMC in Houston, tells this story about new life. It seemed that contractors were building a new highway in England. There was an old building in the way so they tore it down. After they cleared the debris down to the bare dirt, and it became exposed to sunshine and rain, something amazing happened. Flowers began to spring up. Some of them were new plants and some were very old species identified as plants that the Romans had brought to that area almost two thousand years before. Some of these plants were unknown in today’s world. For almost forever these seeds were hidden there in the ground without air and light. It was as if they had died. After the obstacles were cleared away and the light was let in, they sprang into the fullness of their beauty. They did what seeds are supposed to do.
Guess what? Each of us has seeds hidden inside of us. They are just sitting there waiting for the obstacles to be removed and the light to be let in. They are ready to spring into the fullness of their beauty. They are ready to help us become what we are supposed to be. Take care of those seeds and help them to flourish and grow.
Prayer
Lord, Let me grow into what You want me to be. Amen.
