Scripture reading
Looking at His disciples, He said: Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
–Luke 6:20-21
Thought of the Day
I know you have heard the saying that “Laughter is the best medicine”. Well, doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center have done a study that seems to prove this old adage. Their study has linked an active sense of humor to a lower risk of heart and artery disease. Furthermore, hearty laughter has proven to reduce blood pressure.
That is great news, I think. I have always thought that Jesus had to have a great sense of humor as he moved and lived among the people long ago. I can imagine that he must have amazed His friends with things as He was growing up as a child and youth. I have to know that His loving awesome eyes always had a twinkle in them. I have some better news for you today. Maybe the saying ought to be “Laughter is pretty good medicine, but Jesus is the best”.
Prayer
Jesus, You are the great comforter and healer. Thanks. Amen.
