Scripture reading
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God.
–John 1:1
Thought of the Day
I recently saw a list that ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY magazine compiled of “The Greatest Movie Lines of All Time”. It was pretty interesting. There were some classic lines from classic movies. Number one was “I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender,” from ON THE WATERFRONT. One of my favorites was from COOL HAND LUKE; “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.” I still tear up when I remember the end of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, when Reverend Sikes tells Scout, “Stand up. Your father’s passing.” A more recent move, JERRY MCGUIRE had two lines on the list. Everyone remembers, “You had me at Hello”, and “Show me the Money!” Who can forget Colonel Jessup in A FEW GOOD MEN, “You can’t handle the truth!”
These are great lines. I can think of another list that would be cool to compile. What if we tried to come up with the fifty greatest Bible Lines of all time? Joshua’s speech to the tribes at Shechem would be on my list. I love it when he said, “Choose this day whom you will serve, but for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” When Ruth said, “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God will be my God.” I can’t even begin to list all of the great things that Jesus said. Here are a few. “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” “Lo, I will be with you always.” Finally, one of my favorites is ”Feed my Sheep”. Why don’t you make your list and keep it with you? Let the great words from the Bible stay with you always.
Prayer
Lord, Your Words are with me always. Amen
