Scripture reading
But just as you excel in everything – in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us – see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
–2 Corinthians 8:7
Thought of the Day
If you ever pick up a Yellow pages and are looking for either a listing of Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist or United Methodist churches, or the phone number for Cigar and tobacco retail stores in Brady, Texas and the bottom of the page is torn off, then I am very sorry. I confess. I am the guilty party. I was looking through a notebook where I keep ideas for thoughts and I found about a third of a yellow page torn off. I don’t remember when I “found” it. (OK, I realize that won’t stand up in court.) I don’t remember when I tore it out. I do know why I tore it out, though.
This little story was on the bottom of the page. It was about the famous violinist Fritz Kreisler. (I have never heard of him either.) After one of his concerts a woman rushed up to him and cried out, “I’d give my life to play as beautifully as you do.” To this Kreisler replied, “I did.” If we wish to excel at anything we must give our life to it. If we wish to be the people that God made us to be, we must give our life to God.
Prayer
Father, I am Yours. Amen.
