Get Past Friday

Scripture reading

“Don’t be alarmed, “ he said. “You are looking for Jesus of Nazarene, who was crucified. He has Risen! He is not here.
–Mark 16:6

Thought of the Day

There is a great story about the British minister, W. E. Sangster. Towards the end of his ministry he contracted a disease that caused him to begin to lose his voice. It eventually caused progressive muscular atrophy. Knowing the end was near; he spent most of his time in prayer and writing. He did lose his voice and was forced to communicate with his loved ones with his pen and paper. On Easter Sunday, a few weeks before his death he wrote these words to his daughter.

“It is terrible to wake up on Easter morning and have no voice with which to shout, “He is Risen! – But it would be still more terrible to have a voice and not want to shout.”

I love those words. In spite of his terrible disease, Reverend Sangster was able to see past it all to celebrate the Risen Lord. He was able to get past Friday to see Sunday. It is my hope and prayer that you too will wake up on this Easter morning and shout “HE IS RISEN!!”

Prayer

Father, Give me a voice in which to shout Your Good News. Amen.
