Feed my Sheep

Scripture reading

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord.” he said, “You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

–John 21:15

Thought of the Day

I just got back from a trip down to South Texas where I was checking out some possibilities for next summer’s senior high workcamp. I visited a camp where we might stay and had a meeting with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley about some possible work. As you might be able to imagine, the Food Bank in the valley does great work. There are so many crops grown there and unfortunately so many people in need. I was so impressed as I walked through the warehouse and heard about all the agencies and groups that were helped. I was able to observe some staff and volunteers in an area sorting food. There was a quote by Mother Teresa on the wall there. This is what it said.

“If you cannot feed one hundred people feed one.”

I love this quote. Sometimes I think the magnitude of some issues out there overwhelms us and we think that our one voice or two hands can’t make a difference. Mother Teresa knew that each of us could make a difference in our world. She knew that we can feed one person, we can witness to one person, and we can each reach out in love and in Christ to at least one person. I think she also knew that once we do it to one person we could figure out how to do it again and again. So start slow if you have to but at least start today and figure out how to share Christ with others and do what He calls us to do in our scripture for today.

Prayer

Lord, I can do all things through You. Amen.
