Scripture reading
God did not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
–2 Timothy 1:7
Thought of the Day
In today’s PARADE magazine there was an article by David Ropeik entitled, “What Really Scares Us”. In it he talks about the things that the average American fears. It is a list that seems to grow daily. You can imagine what was on the list. It was full of all kinds of ways that people imagined that they could die. Being eaten by a shark, dying of a dog bite, drowning in a flood, being hit by lightning were some of the fears listed. Cell phone radiation also made the list. Guess what? Mr. Ropeik discovered in his research that most of these things that we fear should be way down on our list. The odds of you being eaten by a shark are 1 in 281,000,000. Dying of a dog bite is 1 in 19,000,000. Reaching heaven via a flood is 1 in 6,900,000. Having lightning strike you in 1 in 3,000,000. The dreaded death by cell phone radiation fear is somewhat not an issue since your chances of dying by it is zero, absolutely zero.
Now before you go out on the town thinking you don’t have to worry about these things, remember our scripture for today. Be of sound mind. Don’t roll the dice and hang out with hungry sharks or mad dogs during a heavy rainstorm while talking on the phone.
Prayer
Lord, You fill us with Your love and power. Amen.
