Envision Bridges

Scripture reading

Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

–Colossians 3:1-2

Thought of the Day

Joseph Strauss was an engineer who lived in San Francisco back in the early 1930’s. He would go often to a place on the shore where he could see the opening of the bay. In his mind, he formed a picture of a majestic bridge that connected the two sides. The more he thought about it, the clearer the picture became. Today, thousands of commuters are grateful for this man’s vision as they travel on the Golden Gate Bridge. It began as a picture in Joseph Strauss’ mind.
Maybe we all ought to be like Joseph Strauss? Maybe we all ought to envision bridges in our minds. Bridges that connect us with our family and friends in loving and caring ways. Bridges that connect us with our “neighbor” out there. Bridges that connect us with others in the world. And of course, a bridge that connects us with God. Oh yea, that bridge is Jesus. Keep these bridges in your mind and you will be fulfilling the scripture for today. You will be setting your mind on things above.

Prayer

Lord, I want to set my eyes and my mind on You. Amen.
