Scripture reading
Do everything without complaining, or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.
–Philippians 2:14-16
Thought of the Day
Why does it seem so easy sometimes to complain about things? Last week the weather was too hot for me. I imagine in a few weeks it might be too cold for me, of course I live in Houston, so maybe not. Most of the time, when I am prone to complaining, I realize that I am pretty much centered on myself. Sometimes people get so used to complaining that it becomes who they are. Some guy named A. L. Todd wrote something we all need to remember. He wrote:
We can complain because rosebushes bear thorns, or we can rejoice because thorn bushes bear roses.
The next time you are ready and raring to complain, think about the rose bush. Stop and see the roses.
Prayer
Lord, Help us to find the beauty in your world. Amen.
