Compassion

Scripture reading

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

–Galatians 5:14

Thought of the Day

In Henri Nouwen’s book “With Open Hands”, he wrote a most awesome thing about compassion. This is it:

“Conversion to God means a simultaneous conversion to
the other persons who live with you on this earth.”

As we approach the birth of the Christ Child, we are called to reach out to those around us who need our love the very most and share God’s love. We are called to show compassion to our brothers and sisters in our world. Think back to when you first knew that “God loved you and was your Lord”. Imagine that you took a picture with God on the day of your “conversion”. Now look at the rest of the picture. Do you see all the others in the picture? Nouwan captured in his words that image. As we connect with God we also connect with others. Do all you can to reach out in His name this holiday season.

Prayer

Lord, Let me see others in my world with Your compassion and love. Amen.
