Scripture reading
Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
–Joshua 24:14a, 15
Thought of the Day
I hope you watched part or all of the Presidential Inaugural Ceremonies yesterday. It is such a historic moment, not only for the United States, but also for the world. I would encourage you to read the speech given by President Bush. Towards the end of it he said a line that I love. Here it is.
“Make the choice to serve in a cause larger than your wants, larger than yourself. “
We all get to make a lot of choices. Joshua knew that and also knew that he was called to make the choice to serve the Lord. He knew that it was a choice to serve in a cause larger than his wants, larger than himself. We need to be able to make the same choice. We need to choose to serve the Lord.
Prayer
Lord, Give me the courage to choose You. Amen.
