Scripture reading
Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
–Hebrews 12:14
Thought of the Day
The Cherokee Indians had a great understanding of how to get along with each other. If there were a conflict between two Cherokees, they would have to meet with the tribal head. He would quietly listen to each side of the argument and then he would tell each man to go out and stand in the other man’s shoes, (or moccasins I guess), to be able to see it from the other perspective. Once that was done, each man could decide whether or not to carry it further and make it an argument. Most of the time, the matter was peaceably resolved.
That is pretty sound advice I think. Most of the time we are only concerned about our side of things. This scripture in Hebrews reminds us how to treat others in a “holy” way. Impossible you think? Remember that we are holy because God makes us that way. In Him, we can live in peace with others.
Prayer
Father God, Let me embrace your holiness. Amen.
