Calm Down

Scripture reading

They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired haven.
–Psalm 107:30

Thought of the Day

I love the word “calm”. I can’t count the times I have told my kids to “calm down”. I love being able to find some calm time in the busyness of my world. I love the whole image of Jesus being the calm port in the storm. If you are like me at all, you too, appreciate calm times. But you know, I kind of feel sorry for Mary Williams. You see, she is a senior taster for Starbucks Coffee. For the past seven years, Mary has tasted up to 300 cups of coffee a day. The little article that I read about Mary had this line in it; “With a surprisingly calm manner, she talked about her job.” I have the feeling that the psalmists’ definition of “calm” is somewhat different than Mary’s. I think I will stick with the calm that the Bible writes about. How about you?

Prayer

Father, Help me find the calm that only You can give. Amen.
