Scripture reading
Dear Friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
–1 John 4:7,8
Thought of the Day
I just got back from Atlanta and while I was there I spent some time at the Martin Luther King, Jr. historic site and Center for Social Change. It was most powerful to re-visit his ministry and work in the civil rights movement. Many of his thoughts and words were engraved throughout the whole area. This is a quote that grabbed me:
“Hatred and bitterness can never cure the disease of fear; only love can do that. Hatred paralyzes life, love releases it. Hatred confuses life. Love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.”
You know, those words are just as important today as they were back in the fifties and sixties. As people of faith, we are called to love. Dr. King heard that calling and preached it wherever he was. How are your ears? Listen for your calling to love.
Prayer
Lord, Let Your love illuminate through me. Amen.
