Born again

Scripture reading

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

–1 Peter 1:23

Thought of the Day

There is a great story about Thomas Edison. When Mr. Edison was sixty-seven years old, his laboratory was destroyed by fire. To make matters even worse, the buildings were greatly under insured. As everything was going up in flames, his entire life’s work now gone; Edison’s son went to his father to comfort him. He was surprised by what his father said to him. In the midst of the great fire, Edison told his son to go and to find his mother to come and see the fire because “she will never see anything as spectacular as long as she will live”. The next morning Mr. Edison gathered all his employees at the destroyed site and said, “There is great value in disaster. All of our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.” Three weeks later, Thomas Edison delivered his first phonograph.

I find it pretty comforting to know that God has the same attitude as Thomas Edison. I know that when we are “born again” that God discards all of our mistakes and lets us start anew. That is the good news!
