Scripture reading
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loves is born of God, and knows God.
–1 John 4:7
Thought of the Day
John Fawcett was preacher back in the late 1700’s at a small church in Wainsgate, England. He had many skills as a minister and writer and was called from this small, somewhat poor church to a much larger church in London. He and his wife packed their belongings and loaded the wagons for the move. The members from their church came to say goodbye. Through the tearful farewells, Mary, John’s wife cried out, “John, I cannot bear to leave!” “Nor can I, “ he replied, “We shall remain here with our people.” Things were unpacked and John Fawcett spent his entire fifty-four ministry in Wainsgate.
Through that experience, John Fawcett wrote a great hymn of the church. Here are his words.
Bless be the tie that binds, our hearts in Christian love;
the fellowship of kindred minds, is like to that above.
Prayer
Lord, Thanks be for the connections that bind us to each other through Your love. Amen.
