Scripture reading
The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!” … When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, the wall collapsed and the people entered the city.
–Joshua 6:16,20
Thought of the Day
I mentioned that I visited the George Bush Presidential Library last week. Since I am an old political scientist, (why did I pick that major???), it was interesting to wander around and see the different exhibits and memorabilia. One thing that really grabbed me was the piece of the Berlin Wall that was presented to President Bush by the German government. It was amazing to stand in front of it. It was four feet wide and fourteen feet tall. It was covered with graffiti. That wall, such a symbol of oppression, built by man in an effort to “control” the world, collapsed in November of 1989. When it did, the people entered the city.
More than three thousand years ago, the walls of Jericho collapsed because the people shouted. They shouted for the Lord. There are still some walls in our world that need to fall down. Warm up your vocal chords. Maybe you need to do a little shouting.
Prayer
Awesome God, Give me the courage and strength to shout for you. Amen.
