Scripture Reading
Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10
Thought of the Day
The Captain turned off the engine and the boat slowed down and began to drift. Suddenly, it got very quiet. All I could hear was the splash of the waves against the boat and the wind blowing across the water. I remember the words that our guide repeated over and over as we visited different places. He would say to us, “If not here, then near. If not here, then near.” I had an unbelievable feeling come over me. I was on a fishing boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. I was on the same water that Jesus and the boys were on so long ago. It not here, then near. If not here, then near.
I have been fortunate to have been able to visit the Holy Lands twice in my life and I will never forget either trip. Being in the land where Jesus walked, and I guess even being on the water where Jesus walked was the best. The scriptures really came alive as we visited the different Holy sites.
As I think back on my trips and especially being on that quiet boat that day, I still get a feeling of peace. We don’t live in a quiet world. It is hard for us to find those quiet places. Now luckily, you don’t have to go to the Sea of Galilee and get on a boat to find that stillness. It may be easy, or it might be hard but try to find that time and place. Once you find that stillness and peace, I hope and pray that you clearly see and know that God is God.
Prayer
God, only in You can I find peace and know that You are God. Amen.
