Scripture reading
And be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you.
–Ephesians 4:32
Thought of the Day
I was cleaning off the table by my side of the bed and found a Barnes and Noble Bookstore gift card that I had not used, so I went yesterday to spend it. I always spend a little bit of time in the discount book section. It always makes me a little sad to see all the books there. To see someone’s hard work reduced in price to almost nothing is tough. I do sometimes find good books. I was scanning the shelves and the title of a little book caught my eye. It was called, “A Good Turn”. As I reached for it to look at it, I thought about what it was about. Could it be about how we are called to live our lives and treat others? Maybe it was a list of “good turns” that one could use to better the world? When I opened it up, I had to smile. “A Good Turn” is a book about the history of the screwdriver and how it changed the world. Some guy wrote an entire book about the screwdriver. Who is writing books about the history of the screwdriver? Who is buying books about the history of the screwdriver? Not me, I put it back on the shelf.
It did make me think however. Maybe the guy who wrote “A Good Turn” didn’t make it a book filled with tips on how we are to live our lives, or a book filled with lists of “good turns” because there is already a best seller out there. It is called the Bible. I love our scripture for today. It is great advice. Do what it says and you will have done a good turn for today.
Prayer
Lord, Help me to do to others as you have done for me. Things like forgiving and loving come to mind. Amen.
